In Nepal, UCPN (maoist) party Vice Chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has been elected as the new Prime Minister . He is the 35th Prime Minister of Nepal. He received 340 votes defeating his rival Nepali Congress Ram Chandra Poudel who received 235 votes out of the 575 cast in the Parliament on Sunday.The voting became a formality as the Samyukta Loktantantik Madhesi Morcha and other fringe parties decided to support Dr. Bhattarai. The Morcha an alliance of five parties with 66 votes made the decision following a four point deal which was signed between the Maoists and the alliance. The maoist which is the largest party in the Constituent Assembly has 236 legislators.AIR correspondent reports, the Maoist now will lead the government after a gap of two years. Reacting soon after being elected Prime Minister Dr. Bhattari said his priority will be to complete the peace process, constitution writing and give relief to the people. He is the fourth Prime Minister since 2008 elections. A doctorate from Jawaharlal Nehru University New Delhi, he was earlier the Finance Minister in the government headed by Maoist Chairman Puspha Kamal Dahal. He comes to power at a crucial time when the term of the Constituent Assembly is coming to end on 31st of this month. The caretaker government had registered bill for extending the Constituent Assembly by three months while the maoist has been asking for a six month extension.
