In Nepal, UCPN (maoist) party Vice Chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has been elected as the Prime Minister. He received 340 votes defeating his rival Nepali Congress Ram Chandra Poudel who got 235 votes out of the 575 members present in the Parliament on Sunday. Beside the Maoists, Dr. Bhattarai was supported by the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha an alliance of five Madhes-based parties with 66 votes in the Parliament. The voting became a formality as the Samyukta Loktantantik madhesi Morcha decided to support Dr. Bhattarai. The Morcha an alliance of five parties made the decision following a four point deal which was signed between the Maoists and the alliance.
