The 17th anniversary of the demolition of the disputed structure at Ayodhya passed off peacefully. Elaborate security arrangements were taken across the country to maintain law and order. Police and para-militry personnel were deployed at all sensitive places, including twin cities Ayodhya-Faizabad. In Delhi, the Liberhen Commission report was in focus at various programmes organised by different political and social outfits. Delhi Pradesh Samajwadi Party organised a dharna at Jantar Mantar. In Uttar Pradesh, more than 100 workers of CPI-ML were arrested while taking out a secular procession at Varanasi Cantt Railway Station. They were released in the evening. CPI-ML organised processions at several places in the state including Lucknow, Mirzapur, Kushinagar and Deoria districts.Vishwa Hindu Prashid and other Hindu outfits organised Shourya Diwas at Karsewakpuram in Ayodhya and burnt effigy of Liberhen Commission report, terming it baseless. Babri Masjit Action Committee organised special prayer for peace and communal harmony. Shops and commercial establishments were closed for the day on this occasion at Ayodhya and Faizabad in some localities. Tight security was in place in most of the towns and special precaution was taken at communally sensitive districts. State government has banned any public function in the backdrop of Liberhen Commission and anniversary of demolition of the disputed structure. No untoward incident is reported from any part of the state.
