At Ipoh in Malaysia on Thursday, the Indian hockey team suffered one of the biggest humiliation in their history as they suffered a Three – Seven thrashing against New Zealand in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. It was the biggest defeat for India in their 65 meetings against the Kiwis. The previous biggest margin of victory for the 'Black Sticks' against India was in Antwerp in 2007 where New Zealand won 2-0.India, who are the defending champions, are now virtually out of contention for a place in the final. With seven points, they have slipped to the fifth position in the seven-team round-robin league table. Five-time Azlan Shah Cup winners Australia, who defeated Great Britain 2-1 earlier on Thursday, now have 13 points from five games and are assured of a place in Sunday's summit clash with one league match still to go.
