Azam Khan accuses EC of acting at behest of Congress like CBI

In Uttar Pradesh, senior leader of the Samajwadi Party and minister Azam Khan today attacked the Election Commission, accusing it of acting at the behest of the Congress like CBI. He has threatened to move the court against the Election Commission, saying that the poll panel would have to prove its integrity. Azam Khan along with Amit Shah of BJP has been banned from holding election meetings and delivering speeches in Uttar Pradesh. The Election Commission had found the video footage of various speeches of the two leaders to be highly objectionable and in violation of the Model Code of Conduct. Three cases have been lodged under various sections of IPC against Azam Khan, of two are in Ghaziabad and Shamli and the third in Rampur for allegedly instigating communal feelings and spreading hatred between people.

AIR correspondent reports, with one more case lodged against Azam Khan in Sadar Thana of Rampur, the total number of cases slapped on him, have gone to three. On the other side, Khan has objected to Election Commission's action against him saying the same type of statement was also made by Ajit Singh, RLD chief and a close ally of Congress, but the Commission has spared him. Analysts say, the Commission may also take the cognizance of the statements Khan made today questioning the integrity of the poll body during the press conference in Rampur.
