A fortnight long celebrations of 70 years of Independence -70 saal Azadi- Yaad Karo Kurbani came to a close today. The programme was aimed at re-instilling the spirit of freedom struggle and national movement among the younger generation. It was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the birthplace of freedom fighter Chandra Shekhar Azad at Alirajpur in Madhya Pradesh on 9th of this month. Union Ministers visited more than 150 places all over the country associated with freedom movement during the period. <br/><br/>The Ministers and BJP MPs also took part in the week long Tiranga Yatra all over the country.To showcase the unity in diversity a week long programme Bharat Parv was organised at India Gate lawns to generate a patriotic fervour and promote rich cultural diversity of the nation.<br/><br/>For the first time Women Union Ministers visited border areas to celebrate Raksha Bandhan and tied Rakhi to Jawans as part of the celebration. On the last day today, mass singing of National Anthem was held in different schools and colleges as part of celebrations. <br/><br/>In Andaman and Nicobar Island Sattar Saal Azadi & Zara Yaad Karo Qurbani programme was concluded in befitting manner. Thousands of students and teachers from schools and colleges participated in the programme devoted to martyrs of freedom struggle. AIR correspondent reports that the main function was held in the auditorium of Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkiya Mahavidyalaya, Port Blair were the programmes of songs, dance and skit depicting freedom struggle right from 1857 to 1947 were presented. <br/><br/>The speakers on the occasion expressed their gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving call to the nation to celebrate "Sattar Saal Azadi- Zara Yaad Karo Qurbani". The speakers called upon the youth to contribute in nation building, remembering the supreme sacrifice of freedom fighters.<br/><br/>During the last fortnight many Tiranga Yatra and Rallies were taken out in the different of the Islands under the leadership of local Member of Parliament Bishnu Pada Ray. The people from all section of the society took part in this programme.
