<span style="color: #222222;">Union Ministry of Power organised Bijli Mahotsav in association with the Power Department, Government of Meghalaya in the Ri-Bhoi District of the State as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The programme which was held yesterday highlighted the key achievements of the power sector in the North Eastern State. On the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ri-Bhoi District, Meghalaya, Mrs V A Hynniewta highlighted the unprecedented growth shown by the power sector over the past few years.The Bijli Mahotsav listed out some of the key areas of progress in the country's power sector including increase in generation capacity from over two lakh 48 thousand Mega Watt in 2014 to four lakh Megawatt at present. This &nbsp;capacity is &nbsp;one lakh 185 thousand more than the demand.<br />''<br />''Senior Officials from &nbsp;North Eastern Electric Power Coorporation, Meghalaya Power Department as well as from District Administration were present at the function. The Mahotsav is under the umbrella event Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya – Power @2047, which is being held across the country as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The initiative aims at encouraging more public participation and getting across the developments in the power sector to the citizens at large.</span><br />
