Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav: Culture Ministry organises event on International Mother Language Day

<span style="color: #222222;">The Culture Ministry is organizing an event on the occasion of International Mother Language Day as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. On the first day, Culture Ministry Secretary Govind Mohan, Director and representative of UNESCO to India, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Maldives, Eric Falt and renowned lyricist Prasoon Joshi inaugurated the event at Indira Gandhi National Center of Arts, New Delhi.<br />''<br />''On this occasion, Culture Ministry's Secretary Govind Mohan said, several languages across the globe are facing the danger of extinction. He said, as estimated by the United Nations, 50 per cent of languages will become extinct by the year 2100.<br />''<br />''Highlighting the grave threat to indigenous languages, Director and representative of UNESCO, Eric Falt said, 43 per cent of estimated six thousand languages spoken around the world are endangered. He said, today less than 100 languages are used in the digital space. He asserted that extinction of each minority languages will make irreparable loss for the culture.</span><br />
