Azad visits medical college to review encephalitis situation in UP

Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Thursday visited Baba Raghav Das Medical College Hospital to review the encephalitis situation in the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh.He said that he will assess the situation in Gorakhpur and adjoining districts during his two-day stay and will decide on central assistance to curb the menace. He said the officials of union health ministry and Indian Council of Medical Research have visited Gorakhpur several times during past two years and the centre is doing every possible effort to control spread of the disease.Union Minister of state for Petroleum, RPN Singh and Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh apart from senior officials from the ministry were also present during his visit.Meanwhile with three more deaths on Thursday, total death toll due to encephalitis has mounted to 474 this year in the eastern region.More than 300 patients are being treated at BRD Medical College Hospital and other government hospitals of the region.
