<span style="color: #222222;">Over the past 75 years since Independence, India's largest public service broadcaster, All India Radio has been the proverbial storyteller for crores of People across the country. All India Radio is celebrating 75 years of freedom with a series, Azad Bharat Ki Baat- Akashvani Ke Saath. It showcases the journey of India since Independence in various walks of life through the storytelling of All India Radio.<br />”<br />”In Today’s Episode, we will bring you the story of the development journey of North East region of India :-<br />”<br />”The Northeast region of India comprises eight States- Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sikkim.<br />”<br />” According to the 2011 census, this 3.78 per cent of the country’s population resides in this region. It also comprises approx 7.98 per cent of the country’s area including 5,483 Km of India’s international borders. Several initiatives have been undertaken by the Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to develop North Eastern Region holistically for improving basic infrastructure and providing road, rail, and air connectivity in the region.<br />”<br />”The Ministry of DoNER ensures all-around development of the North-Eastern Region. The North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme was launched by Central Government in December 2017 to fill the gaps in the creation of infrastructures in two sectors. One is physical infrastructure relating to water supply, power, connectivity, and especially, projects promoting tourism.<br />”<br />” The other is social sector projects of education and health. India’s Look East and Act East policy aim to connect North East to East Asia and ASEAN countries. Various rail, road, and air connectivity projects are being implemented. In 2021, the number of operational airports rose to 15 from six in the North East.<br />”<br />”The East-West Corridor is a national project which runs from Porbandar in Gujarat to Silchar in Assam. International projects include the Trilateral Highway connecting Manipur to Thailand via Myanmar, the Bangladesh-China-India- Myanmar Economic Corridor, and the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport Project, which comprises a sea route for shipping cargo from ports in eastern India to Myanmar, as well as a land route to the country from the North-East.<br />”<br />”The Tuirial Hydro-power project is the first major Central Sector project to be successfully commissioned in Mizoram to boost the socio-economic development of the State. Imphal-Moreh and Jiribam-Imphal railway lines will connect the northeast region with Southeast Asia and Europe on a rail network.
