Ayodhya verdict: Mumbai remains totally calm and peaceful

Post the Ramjanambhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit verdict, Mumbai has been totally calm and peaceful. Inspite of the heavy security arrangements across the city, most working class people preferred to take an early off.The usual evening rush on railway stations and roads was missing. Mumbaikars have accepted the verdict in the right spirit and hence no elaborate celebration was visible in any part of the city. Still, as a precautionary measure, the government has said that the ban on bulk SMS will continue till 4th October. And section 144 of Criminal Procedure Court is also in place to avoid any unlawful assembly of people. Deployment of forces at sensitive and hyper sensitive areas in and across Mumbai will continue for three more days. Till yesterday, the Mumbai Police had taken about 7000 people under preventive custody and issue notices to about 1000 influential leaders restricting them from making any provocative statements. Various sections of the society right from the government bodies, social organisations up to the film fraternity have appealed the citizens to respect the judgement and to maintain peace and calm.
