The Home Minister has expressed the hope that with the measures put in place, peace and law and order will be maintained in the aftermath of the judgement by the Allahabad High Court on Ramjanambhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit tomorrow. Speaking to media in New Delhi today P. Chidambaram said that the Centre has taken adequate measures and deployed enough security forces all over the country to assist the state governments to maintain peace. He said that all the state governments have been advised to be firm and expressed the confidence that they will be able to maintain public order and peace. In reply to a question, he said that one lakh ninety thousand police forces from various formations are available with Uttar Pradesh and the state government is convinced that it is more than enough to maintain law and order. He said that main political parties have reposed their faith in the process of law and several organisations connected with the Ramjanabbhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute have also affirmed that they will respect the judgement of the Court and will seek to advance their cause only in accordance with the law. He said that the common citizens are also in favour of a judicial resolution of the dispute. He said that all these are helpful signs that peace and harmony will prevail in the wake of the judgement. Replying to another question, Chidambaram said that the BJP in its official position has affirmed that it will abide by the verdict of the Court and he expects the states ruled by the party to take that line to ensure that law and order is maintained. He said that the delay of six days in the delivery of the judgement in his view has given an opportunity to a number of parties, groups and individuals to reiterate that they will respect the verdict of the court. He quoted from Mahatma Gandhi's favourite bhajan “Ishwar Allah tero nam – sabko sanmati de Bhagwan” to appeal to all sections of people to cooperate with the government and uphold the values of the country.
