In Assam, the state health department has initiated an awareness drive to boost the use of Iron Folic Acid (IFA) tablets among women. Official sources said that only 14 percent women in the state consume IFA tablets. State NRHM in collaboration with UNICEF has already started Adolescent Anaemia Control Programme in seven districts to improve the health condition of girls’ aged between 10 to 19 years. Anemia is considered a major cause of death during pregnancy.
