Aviation Safety Panel to advise DGCA on aiar safety measures

An aviation safety advisory panel is in place to enhance air saftey in the country. Replying to a calling attention motion by P Rajeeve of CPI (M), the civil aviation minister Praful Patel said the panel will advise Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the government on the issue. Mr Patel, while sharing the concern of the members on growing air accidents, said that surveillance and enforcement division has been set up in DGCA for preparation and monitoring of the Annual surveillance programme of the airline. The minister informed the House that a board has been set up to resolve and monitor the progress of enforcement of deficiencies noted during surveillance. The Minister said this approach will help in identifying and dealing with the safety threats before they result in any mishap. He informed the house that the challenge to the DGCA is to manage phenomenal growth of air traffic without compromising on aviation safety and various initiatives are being taken in this direction. Giving details, he said the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has been commissioned by the DGCA to enhance safety oversight capabilities at three places. It has completed its project at one place and the work on the other two projects is underway.
