In Jammu and Kashmir, nine jawans were killed in two avalanche tragedies in Gurez and Sonamarg areas of North Kashmir last night. Defence spokesman Lieutenant Col. J S Brar told AIR that six bodies of jawans have been recovered so far from Dawar in Bandipora district. He said the rescue operation is going on. The death toll is feared to rise as more troopers are believed to be under the avalanche. A massive avalanche struck the Brigade headquarters of the army in Dawar village of Gurez sub-division of Bandipora district last night. In another incident at Sonamarg in Ganderbal district, 3 troopers of army were killed when an avalanche hit an army camp.
