Authorities in Maharashtra on Thursday carried out raids at nearly 200 places, in a move to crack down on the oil adulteration mafia. Additional Director General, Law and Order, K P Raghuvanshi said in Mumbai that so far, more than 180 persons have been arrested during the raids. The action comes two days after Yashwant Sonawane, a Maharashtra cadre officer, was burnt alive allegedly by persons associated with the oil mafia at Manmad in Nashik district in broad daylight.Additional Collector of Malegaon, Sonawane was accompanied by his personal assistant and driver when the brazen killing took place. Eleven persons have been arrested in connection with the murder. The main accused Popat Shinde, suspected to have had set Sonawane on fire, has been admitted in Mumbai J J hospital with severe burn injuries. Doctors at the hospital said, Shinde's condition is serious and he has been kept under observation.
