Australia’s strategic body advices Govt. to consider radical measures on nuclear warheads

In Australia, one of the country's top strategic bodies is advising the Government to prepare for a more dangerous nuclear future and not to rule out acquiring nuclear weapons of its own. The Australian Strategic Policy Institute has released a report which warns the world's already considerable arsenal of 23,000 nuclear warheads is likely to expand and that Australia should consider radical measures to protect itself. Russia and the US still hold the majority of the world's nuclear weapons, but there are plenty of other countries and groups who also want to get their hands on nuclear technology.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, the US and Russia are poised to resume negotiations on further reductions to their nuclear arsenals. And this week, a report from the International Commission on Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament will recommend practical measures for slashing stockpiles and preventing proliferation.<br/>
