Australian Prime Minister Tony Abott will reach India on Thursday on a two-day visit to further strengthen the strategic partnership and promote trade and investment between the two countries. Joint Secretary in the External Affairs Ministry, Sanjay Battacharyya told reporters in New Delhi that Abott will hold delegation level talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday after which some agreements including one relating to supply of uranium to India are expected to be signed.
Five rounds of negotiations have been successfully completed between the two sides on supply of uranium.
Australian Prime Minister will call on President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice President Mohammed Hamid Ansari during his stay in Delhi. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will meet the visiting dignitary.
India and Australia have strong and growing economic and trade ties. India is Australia's fifth largest export market, with total exports of 11.4 billion dollars, and there is potential for further cooperation in resources, science, technology and education. About 36 thousand Indian students are enrolled in different institutes of Australia particularly in professional courses.
