Ace shuttlers Kidambi Srikanth and Gurusaidutt have reached the second round of the men's singles at the 750,000 dollar Australian Open badminton tournament. However, Parupalli Kashyap and PV Sindhu made first round exits in the singles events. In Sydney today, while World No 4 Srikkanth beat Hans-Kristian Vittinghus of Denmark 14-21 21-18 22-20 in his first round clash, Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Guru Sai Dutt advanced to the next round after beating Malaysian Ai Wei Jian in straight games in 29 minutes and then Japan's Kazumasa Sakai 21-15, 21-8 in a 32 minute game. Earlier, Kashyap crashed out of the opening round, going down in three-games 26-24 18-21 22-20 to sixth seed Wang Zhengming of China. It was also heartbreak for World No. 12 PV Sindhu as she made a first round exit after losing against her nemesis and former World Champion Yihan Wang in three games 21-18, 15- 21, and 23- 25. In the women's doubles, the pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa also reached the second round. after beating Samantha Barning and Iris Tabeling of Netherlands 21-13, 21-13. The pair faces a tough task ahead as they will take on Indonesian fourth seeds Nitya Krishinda Maheswari and Greysia Polii.
