Ace Indian shuttlers Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth have reached the second round of the singles events at the 750,000 dollar Australian Open badminton tournament. However, Parupalli Kashyap and PV Sindhu made first round exits in the singles events. In the first round of women's singles in Sydney today, defending champion Saina Nehwal defeated Cheah Lyddia Yi Yu of Malaysia in sraight games 21-12, 21-10. However, World No. 12 PV Sindhu made a first round exit after losing against her nemesis and former World Champion Yihan Wang in three games 21-18, 15- 21, and 23- 25. In the men's singles, World No 4 Srikkanth beat Hans-Kristian Vittinghus of Denmark in three games 14-21, 21-18, 22-20 in his first round clash. Earlier, Kashyap crashed out of the opening round, going down in three-games 26-24 18-21 22-20 to sixth seed Wang Zhengming of China. RMV Guru Sai Dutt also bowed out losing to his Chinese rival in three games. In the women's doubles, the pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa also reached the second round. after beating Samantha Barning and Iris Tabeling of Netherlands 21-13, 21-13. The pair faces a tough task ahead as they will take on Indonesian fourth seeds Nitya Krishinda Maheswari and Greysia Polii.
