In Australian Open Tennis, defending Champion and 19 times Grand Slam winner Roger Federer entered into the second round of men's singles today, defeating Slovenian Aljaz Bedene 6-3, 6-4, 6-3. Earlier, former champions Maria Sharapova, Angelique Kerber and Stanislas Wawrinka stormed into the second round today, but it was curtains for Canadian Milos Raonic. Sharapova, still working her way back from a 15-month ban, defeated Tatjana Maria 6-1, 6-4, while Kerber beat Anna-Lena Friedsam 6-0, 6-4. World number one Simona Halep also progressed to the second round with a battling 7-6, 6-1 win over teenage wildcard Destanee Aiava. In Men's Singles, ninth seed Wawrinka, returning from injury, survived a fightback from Ricardas Berankis to enter the second round.
