Veteran Indian star Leander Paes and his Czech partner Radek Stepanek have entered the quarterfinals of the Men's Doubles at the Australian Open tennis tournament. In the pre-quarterfinals in Melbourne today, fifth seeds Paes and Stepanek defeated the unseeded pair of India's Yuki Bhambri and New Zealand's Michael Venus in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. Paes also advanced to the second round of Mixed doubles, partnering Slovakia's Daniela Hantuchova. The duo got the better of Ajla Tomljanovic of Croatia and Australia's James Duckworth in three sets 7-5, 4-6, 10-7 to set up a clash against Mahesh Bhupathi and Elena Vesnina. Eighth seeded duo of Bhupathi and Vesnina of Russia crossed the first-round hurdle with a 6-7 6-4 10-5 win over Spanish pair of Arantxa Parra-Santonj and David Marrero. However, seventh seeded India's Rohan Bopanna and his Pakistani partner Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi crashed out of the men's doubles, after losing to the 12th seeded Filipino-British duo of Treat Huey and Dominic Inglot in straight sets 4-6, 6-7. In the junior girls' singles event, India's Dhruthi Tatachar Venugopal lost 3-6 3-6 to Germany's Katie Boulter. But Dhruthi along with her Indian partner Snehadevi Reddy posted a 6-2 6-7 10-5 win over Japanese pair of Nozomi Ohya and Yukina Saigo in the junior girls' doubles first round. In the junior boys' doubles first round, the eighth seeded pair of India's Sumit and Korea's Hyeon Chung went down to the Spanish duo of Martinez Portero and Munar Clar 3-6 6-7.
