Australian Open: Paes, Bhupathi crash out in finals; Kim clinches Women's Singles title

In Melbourne today, the veteran Indian duo of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi finished as runners-up in the Men's Doubles in the Australian Open Tennis championships. In the final played at the Rod Laver arena, the third seeded duo lost to the top-seeded American twins Bob and Mike Bryan in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. The defeat dashed the Indian duo's dream of completing a career grand slam. Paes and Bhupathi have won doubles trophies in every other Grand Slam together or with different partners. But the Australian Open title remained elusive. For the American twins, it is their fifth Australian title and also the third in succession. Earlier, Kim Clijsters of Belgium won the Women's Singles title in the championship. In the final, she defeated China's Li Na in three sets 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Her victory ended Li's hope of becoming Asia's first grand slam singles champion. For Clijsters, it was her first Australian Open Crown, and also the fourth Grand Slam title. The World's 3rd ranked player has bagged the U.S. Open title thrice.
