Australian Open: Leander Paes, Andre Sa crash out in first round of men's doubles

India's Leander Paes and his partner Brazilian Andre Sa crashed out in the first round of the men's doubles of the Australian Open in Melbourne today. The duo lost in three sets 6-4, 6-7, 4-6 to Belarus' Max Mirnyi and Philippines' Treat Huey, who are seeded 10th in the event. The match lasted 2 hours and 13 minutes. Paes' Australian Open campaign will, however, continue as he also figures in the Mixed doubles competition. The duo of Paes and Martina Hingis will take on Australia's Destanee Aiava and Marc Polmans tomorrow. Earlier today, India's another men's doubles pair of Purav Raja and Divij Sharan lost to the French team of Jonathan Eysseric and Fabrice Martin in their first round match in straight sets 6-7, 6-7. Rohan Bopanna is now the only Indian left in the men's doubles. Along with Uruguyay's Pablo Cuevas, he is up against local team of Alex Bolt and Bradley Mousley in the second round. In the Women's Doubles, Sania Mirza and Czech Republic's Barbora Srycova entered the second round yesterday after beating the British pair of Jocelyn Rae and Anna Smith in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.
