On the opening day of the Australian Open Tennis Championships in Melbourne today, big guns Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Maria Sharapova successfully blasted their way into the second round of the Singles events. But the Grand Slam dream of former World Number One Ana Ivanovic of Serbia was shattered. She lost against unheralded world number 142 Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic in three sets. World number Two Sharapova, looking for her first Australian title since 2008, swept aside Croat Petra Martic6-4, 6-1. Indian Yuki Bhambri's singles campaign came to an end despite a fighting effort against world number six Andy Murray. Yuki went down 3-6, 4-6, 6-7. But the Indian player walked away with rich appreciation from his accomplished rival and the packed house at the Margaret Court Arena. Top seeds Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic and defending men's champion Stan Wawrinka will be seen in action tomorrow.
