It was a mixed morning today for the Indians in the men's doubles at the Australian Open. Mahesh Bhupathi and his Serbian-born Canadian partner Daniel Nestor cruised into third round, while Rohan Bopanna and his American partner of Indian origin Rajeev Ram were surprisingly beaten. Bhupathi and Nestor beat Romanian Victor Hanescu and Slovak Martin Klizan 6-1, 7-6 while Bopanna and Ram lost to Italians Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fagnini with 2-6, 6-7. Bhupathi and Nestor will now play Bolelli and Fagnini. For the Mixed Doubles pre-quarterfinal slot today, the second seeded Indo-Russian pair of Leander Paes and Elena Vesnina will play against the Pak-Swedish team of Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Sofia Arvidsson, while Rohan Bopanna and his partner from Chinese Taipei Su-Wei Hsieh will slug it out against the American-Aussie combination of Jack Sock and Ashleigh Barty. Yesterday, Sania Mirza and her Americam team-mate Bob Bryan advanced into the Mixed Doubles pre-quarterfinals, after beating the Aussie team of Samantha Stosur and Luke Saville, in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
