In Tennis, former world number one Andy Murray today withdrew from the Australian Open after failing to recover from a hip injury. The Briton said in a statement that he is not yet ready to compete in the first Grand Slam of the season, which is due to begin in Melbourne on the 15th of this month. Murray suffered the injury last year and has not played on the ATP tour since losing in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon. He has joined injured Japanese star Kei Nishikori on the sidelines. Nishikori has not played since last August when he suffered a wrist injury.
