The number of asylum seekers who died in a boat tragedy along an Australian island is estimated to touch 48. Prime Minister Julia Gillard said, some bodies may never be recovered. Around 90 people were on board SIEV 221 when it crashed into the rocky cliffs of the Christmas Island last week. Thirty bodies have been recovered so far. The Prime Minister said the government had no plans to lift Australia's humanitarian intake in order to reduce the numbers resorting to people smugglers.
