Hosts Australia defeated India by an innings and 68 runs in the second cricket test at Sydney, taking a 2-0 lead in the 4-match series. The visitors India, who had made 191 in the first innings after opting to bat first, were all out for 400 in the second. Anchored by Skipper Michael Clarke's brilliant 329 not out, Australia amassed a mammoth 659 for 4 (declared) in the first innings. On the fourth day today, the touring Indian side resumed their second innings on the overnight score of 114 for 2, with Gautam Gambhir and Sachin Tendulkar at the crease. Continuing their fearsome performance with the red cherry, the Aussie Pacers struck rightaway, with Peter Siddle bagging Gambhir on 83. Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar was then joined by VVS Laxman at the crease and both shared a 103-run stand for the fourth wicket, trying to trim the massive Australian lead. Michael Clarke, who currently owes a Midas touch, chose himself to bowl, the decision paying off well as Tendulkar was caught at slip for a well-made 80.Tendulkar's wicket sparked a middle-order collapse for the tourists. First it was Laxman, followed by the scalps of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, which exposed the Indian tail at tea.R. Ashwin and Zaheer Khan showed some character with the bat, but could not prevent India from its sixth straight Test defeat on international soil. For the Aussies, Ben Hilfenhaus was the best with ball, as he bagged 5 crucial Indian wickets. Michael Clarke was adjudged man of the match. The third test will be played at Perth from January 13th.
