Australia win fifth Ashes Test by innings & 46 runs; England claim series, 3-2

In the Ashes, Australia defeated hosts England by an innings and 46 runs to win the final Test of the 5-match series at the Oval yesterday evening. England had already clinched the series with victories in three of the first four games. Needing 129 runs with 4 wickets in hand to avoid an innings defeat, England had resumed the fourth day yesterday at 203 for 6. Rain interrupted but Australia managed to bundle out the hosts for 286.Steven Smith was named player of the match for his knock of 143, while Aussie Chris Rogers and Briton Joe Root jointly shared the man of the series award.With the victory, Aussie Skipper Michael Clarke's Test career came to an end. He had announced his retirement after Australia's defeat in the fourth test which helped England retain the Ashes. Steven Smith was named the new captain.
