Australia: PM meets students of Queensland University; Visit to boost education ties

Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi today arrived in Brisbane on a 5-day visit to Australia. The Premier of Queensland, Campbell Newman received him at the Airport. He will attend the G-20 leaders summit scheduled from tomorrow at Brisbane.

Today, the Prime Minister visited Queensland University of Technology to further enhance cooperation in education, particularly technical education, between the two countries.Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with students and faculty members of the University. He was given power point presentations by the students on various projects on science and technology.

Remembering Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru on his birth anniversary, Mr. Modi said, he is fortunate to be among the children on Chacha Nehru's birthday. The Prime Minister focused on projects of bio-fuels, bio-fortification, agro-robotics and also wrote a message on the Agro robot at Queensland. He said, robotics can prove to be beneficial to the field of agriculture as a whole.

The Agro Robot is a light weight machine that performs the functions of a large tractor, including weeding. Mr Modi showed deep interest about the bio-technological processes and talked to various research fellows of the University.

Australia has been a favorite destination for Indian students for years and about 36 thousand students are enrolled in various streams in different universities in this country. Now universities of both the countries are on collaborative move to enhance the number of research scholars for higher and advance studies.

The students of India and Australia have so far completed over 100 research projects .Major areas of research perused by the students are management, mining and taxation. In the evening, Mr Modi will discuss bilateral issues with Prime Ministers of UK and Japan.

Before leaving for Australia to attend G-20 Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded the three day visit of Myanmar. During his stay in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, the Prime Minister apart from attending the 12th ASEAN-India and 9th East Asia Summits, also had several bilateral meetings with ASEAN leaders. He had very fruitful meetings with Chinese, Russian, Malaysian Prime Ministers and Heads of various ASEAN countries.
