Australia pledges around $70 million investment in India for research-enabling green technology

Australia today pledged investment around 70 million US dollars in India for research-enabling green technology to combat the challenges. Speaking at a function in New Delhi today, the Australian Prime Minister Mr. Kevin Rudd said, collaboration and partnership is needed to bring about real results on sustainable development and more broadly on climate change. He said the government will invest 50 million dollars for the Australia-India Strategic research Fund and one million dollars for an innovative Australia-India solar cooling research project. He said, Australia will also invest 20 billion dollars for research into dry land farming in India over five years through the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research. In reply to a question the Australian Prime Minister said that his country is obliged to support all Indian students there.<br/><br/>The Australian Prime Minister also lauded India's role in taking lead in tackling global warming .Mr. Kevin Rudd who arrived in New Delhi yesterday will hold talks with the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh this evening. Maritime security and cooperation in the field of energy and economic partnership is expected to be high on the agenda.
