Sri Lanka on Saturday lost the bid to host the 2018 Commonwealth games to Australia's Gold Coast by a big margin. The voting process took place in the Caribbean island of St. Kitts. Members of the Commonwealth Games Federation on voted 43-27 in Australia's favor disappointing the 60-strong Sri Lankan delegation which lobbied hard to win the opportunity to host the games in the southern most town of Hambantota. Sri Lanka was bidding for the first time to hold Commonwealth games while Australia has already hosted four times.
