In an unprecedented move, Australia on Monday axed vice-captain Shane Watson and three other key players from the side for the third Cricket Test against India. Watson, pacers James Pattinson and Mitchell Johnson and batsman Usman Khawaja were dropped for failing to make a presentation on how to improve their personal as well as the team's performance after the innings defeat in the second Test in Hyderabad. Making the announcement at a press conference in Mohali, Australia coach Mickey Arthur said the dropped players failed to meet the deadline set for making the presentation and it was important to maintain team discipline by punishing them. Australia trail 0-2 in the four-match series, with just 13 players to choose from for the third Test starting at Mohali on Thursday.Meanwhile, upset at being summarily sacked from the team for the third Test against India, Shane Watson is now contemplating quitting Test cricket. He checked out of the team hotel in Mohali and left for Sydney even as the rest of the squad trained. Australian Captain Michael Clarke, however, has defended the team management's decision to suspend the four players for the Mohali Test. The Skipper said it was not for just about one incident, but also about ' off-field stuff' which has been unacceptable.
