Australian Defence Minister John Faulkner has blocked a shipment to Pakistan amid concerns it may be destined for a weapons of mass destruction program. <br/><br/>Victorian firm GBC Scientific Equipment confirmed it had attempted to export two atomic absorption spectrophotometers to Pakistan, only for Senator Faulkner to intervene using the powers of the Weapons of Mass Destruction (Prevention of Proliferation) Act. <br/><br/>According to newspaper reports the company was unable to convince the government the equipment wanted to be sold a Pakistani engineering company could not be used to analyse metals used for centrifuges and missiles. <br/><br/>The report said the 125,000 dollar shipment is the fourth to be blocked by the minister under the act. Senator Faulkner says the sale posed unacceptable risks, based on advice from his department and other agencies.
