Australia defeated the West Indies by 17 runs through Duckworth and Lewis method in a Group-B match of the ICC World Cup Twenty-20 Cricket tournament at Colombo in Sri Lanka last night. The West Indies posted a formidable 191 for 8 in the stipulated 20 overs, after skipper Daren Sammy won the toss and opted to bat first. Fire Bladesman Chris Gayle top scored for the Caribbean with a quick fire 54, featuring 5 fours and 4 sixes. Marlon Samuels also chipped in with a valuable 50. In reply, Australia were 100 for 1 in 9.1 overs when rain interrupted play. Australia were declared winners as they were well ahead of the par score of the Duckworth and Lewis method. Aussie opener Shane Watson, who remained unbeaten on 41, was adjudged man of the match. Earlier, in a Group-C match, South Africa beat Sri Lanka by 32 runs at Hambantota. Today, New Zealand will take on Pakistan at 3:30 PM (IST) in Pallekele; while India will clash with defending champions England in Colombo at 7:30 PM (IST). All India Radio will broadcast live commentary on the India-England match alternately in Hindi and English from 7 PM onwards today. The commentary will be available on the national hook-up as well as 66 identified stations on medium wave and the FM Gold Network.
