India lost the first Cricket Test against Australia by 48 runs at Adelaide on Saturday. The hosts now lead the four-match series 1-0. When play began on the fifth and final day, Australia declared their second innings at their overnight 290 for 5 that left India with a victory target of 364 runs. Chasing the target, India were well placed at 242 for 2 at one stage, before the hosts staged a dramatic comeback to grab eight wickets for 73 runs. The Indians folded for 315.Skipper Virat Kohli made a career-best 141 which was his second hundred in the Test. Murali Vijay was out for 99. Kohli became only the second player in Test history to score a century in both innings on his debut as captain. In doing so, he matched Greg Chappell's feat of scoring twin hundreds in a Test in his first match as captain against West Indies in 1975-76 at Brisbane. Austrlian Off-spinner Nathan Lyon was declared Man of the Match for his match haul of 12 wickets.The second Test will begin at Brisbane next Wednesday.
