Hosts Australia were 277 for 6 in the first innings against India at stumps on Day 1 in the first test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, MCG.Brad Haddin on 21 and Peter Siddle on 34 were at the crease.After opting to bat first, the Aussies got off to a nervy start, with big hitting opener David Warner and left hander Shaun Marsh giving away their wickets at a score of 46.Rookie Pacer Umesh Yadav claimed both the wickets in the first session, which saw two rain interruptions.At lunch, the hosts were 68 for 2.In the post-lunch session, Ricky Ponting and Opener Ed Cowan steadied the Australian ship, with a superb third wicket stand of 113 runs. Continuing his supreme form, Yadav again gave India a breakthrough, this time Ponting, who was caught at slip on 62. Ponting's wicket began the wicket deluge for India, with none of the Australian middle order batsmen supporting Cowan at the other end.
