Australia: 2018 Commonwealth Games to begin at Gold Coast tomorrow

The 2018 Commonwealth Games will begin at Gold Coast, Australia tomorrow, with a colourful opening ceremony. Ace Indian shuttler, P.V.Sindhu will carry the Indian flag at the ceremony. At the previous edition of Clommonwealth Games in Glasgow, India stood fourth in the medal tally, collecting 64 medals, including 15 gold and 30 silver. This time, the 218-strong Indian contingent would be expected to either better it or ensure that the final count hovers close to the previous haul.

It is expected that Indian marksmen and women will once again be contributing a bountiful of medals in shooting. In Athletics, javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra , Discus thrower Seema Punia and high-jumper Tejaswin Shankar are medal hopes.

In Badminton, the expectations would be much higher with a star-studded line-up. They include, P.V.Sindhu, Saina Nehwal and K Srikanth.Indians are among the strongest boxing contingents at the Games. Some star performers would be M C Mary Kom and Vikas Krishan.

In Wrestling, India are second in the Commonwealth Games all-time medal list and are expected to dominate this time around as well. Wrestlers to watch out will be Sushil Kumar, Sakshi Malik, and Vinesh Phogat . In SQUASH, Dipika Pallikal and Joshna Chinnappa would once again look to ensure that India have something to celebrate.

In Weightlifting, women's World champion Mirabai Chanu is expected to open the gold rush for India.
