In the Australian open tennis at Melbourne, the sixth seeded Indo-Russian duo of Sania Mirza and Elena Vesnina advanced to the second round of the Women's Doubles. They today defeated the Russian-Greek combine of Alexandra Panova and Eleni Daniilidou in straight sets 6-0, 6-2. They will next play Eva Birnerova of Czech Republic and Italy's Alberta Brianti in the second round.Defending champion Novak Djokovic won convincingly today to join former finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the third round of the Men's Singles event. World No 1 Djokovic was too strong for Colombia's 56th-ranked Santiago Giraldo, reeling off a convincing straight sets 6-3 6-2 6-1 win. Serena Williams brought up her 500th career win, against Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, to reach the third round of the Women's Singles event. Former champion Maria Sharapova made it two wins for the loss of just two games, and 2008 French Open winner Ana Ivanovic also strolled through to the weekend fixtures. Wimbledon champion and Second seed Petra Kvitova defeated Carla Suarez Navarro to stay on course for the top world ranking.
