August records highest rainfall in 44 years with 25 per cent excess downpour

<span style="color: #222222;">India is witnessing the wettest August this year in more than four decades. The country's rainfall so far is 296.2 millimetres. Rainfall during the month has been 25 percent surplus till now, the highest deviation from normal in 44 years. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rains till the month end. According to Met department data, the country last witnessed a higher monsoon surplus in August in the year 1976.</span><br />
