Government today said the auction of 15 coal blocks has fetched over 83,000 crore rupees. Briefing reporters in New Delhi today, Coal Secretary Anil Swarup said that 27 blocks have been allocated for the unregulated sector, while 56 blocks will go to the regulated power sector. He expressed confidence that either the auctioning, or the allocation of 83 coal blocks will be completed by 31st March. AIR correspondent reports that eastern states Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand are getting significant benefits due to the coal blocks auctions..Coal Secretary Anil Swarup said these auctions would result in saving of power tariff to the extent of 37,000 crore rupees. Besides, the states would receive 12,800 crore rupees as royalty.The second phase of coal block auction would begin on 25th of February and end on 2nd of April. Chhattisgarh would receive the benefit of 26,425 crore rupees,Jharkhand of 14,498 crore rupees and Maharashtra of 1,819 crore rupees.The new government has put 19 coal blocks on offer in the first lot of auction. The Supreme Court had cancelled allocation of 204 mines last September.
