Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said attempt to delay the Goods and Services Tax Bill in Parliament is for political reasons. Addressing the annual general meeting of FICCI in New Delhi today, Mr. Jaitley said politics should not become a hurdle to larger interest of the country adding that it would not be possible for the government to accept Congress's demand of prescribing GST tariff in the Constitution itself. He said delay in the bill is better than a flawed GST. The GST Bill is stuck in the Rajya Sabha where the ruling NDA government does not have a majority as well as stiff opposition by the Congress.

Mr. Jaitley said hard reality of India is that it is politics that determines policy. The Minister said in 2015, India has become exceedingly aspirational which is one of the greatest strength of the country. He added the country can shoulder a part of global growth, but it is a harsh reality that the world has slowed down which has impacted various areas including international trade, size of imports and exports. Mr. Jaitley also added that the government would push for other reform bills in the Rajya Sabha in the remaining three days of the Winter Session, which ends on Wednesday
