Attack in Kenya, Two Indians among 39 killed

In the Kenyan capital Nairobi, two Indians and two french citizens are among the 39 killed in an attack on a shopping mall where suspected Islamist gunmen are holding a number of people hostage. 150 injured include four Indians and several US nationals. The Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has said that some of his close relatives were killed in the attack.

He has vowed to bring the attackers to justice and blamed the security forces for the lapse. External Affairs Ministry spokesman Syed Akbaruddin has tweeted that according to the information available from the Indian diplomats in narirobi, two Indian nationals were killed and four injured in the attack. In a statement in Paris, French authorities said two French citizens were among those killed.

Kenyan security forces say, they have pinned down the surviving gunman in the super market in the four storeyed building.The Somali Islamist group al-shabab has claimed responsibility for the attack.

New Delhi is closely monitoring the situation in Nairobi. In a statement in New Delhi, the External Affairs Ministry said the Indian High Commission in Nairobi is in close touch with the Kenyan government and leaders of the Indian community. All members of the High Commission are safe.
