Government today announced that the eligibility criteria for the admission into IITs will change from next year. The Human Resource Development Minister Mr. Kapil Sibal said that only those students should be eligible to appear in the tests who have secured around 80 percent marks in Class 12th. The meeting of the Supreme Council of IITs was held under the chairmanship Mr. Kapil Sibal in New Delhi. Briefing the media later Mr. Sibal that the council has taken a decision to set up two committee to be headed by the Atomic Energy Commission chief Dr. Anil Kakodkar to improve the standard of IITs to the meet the global challenges in 21st century. This committee will give its report in six months. Another committee to be setup under the chairmanship of Director General of Council for Scientific and Industrial Research Prof S K Brahmachari will focuss on the improvement in the curriculum and submit its report within three months. The Minister said that the grant will be given to IITs on the basis of number of students from the Non-Plan head of the Budget.
