In the ongoing 35th National Games in Kerala, much awaited Athletic events will begin today at University Stadium at Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram. Four finals will be held on the opening day of the athletics competition. High jump, shot put in the women's category and 5,000m for both men and women will be decided today. Fencing and Badminton events will also start at Kochi today.In Football, Mizoram will lock horns with Punjab in the men's final today at Calicut. The bronze play-off match will also take place today, and Goa will take on Maharashtra. In Tennis yesterday, Ankita Raina of Gujarat beat Prarthana Thombare of Maharashtra 7-5, 6-4 to clinch the gold of Women's singles event. She went on to claim second gold as she and Eete Ashesh Kumar won the women's doubles title. In the Men's singles finals, Tamilnadu players, Ramkumar Ramnathan beat Sriram Balaji in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 to win gold. In the mens doubles finals, Saketh Myneni and Vishnu Vardhan of Telangana defeated Tamilnadu's Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Vijay Sundar Prasanth in the final 6-7, 6-3, 11-9.Meanwhile, Services continue to lead the medals table with 42 Gold, as Maharashtra and Haryana rally behind with 27 Gold each.
