Athletes to undergo medical examination for age determination

A national code against age fraud in sports comes into force from first of next month. It aims to ensure fair play in sports. According to an official press release the code shall be binding upon all athletes and sports bodies. As per the code all new and existing players participating in age restricted tournaments will be required to once undergo a compulsory medical examination for age determination. Later they will be issued identity cards by the Sports Authority of India or National Sports Federation. The release says that after the issuance of the identity card there will be no need for medical examination for subsequent participation in any sports event. The Sports Authority of India will notify a panel of doctors and hospitals region wise for carrying out such medical examination. The cost of medical examination shall be reimbursed by the government.
