<span style="color: #222222;">India has reiterated its commitment to ensure fullest enjoyment of basic human rights of its people, including through inclusive and sustainable development. Vice Minister, Ministry of External Affairs Reenat Sandhu was delivering a statement at the High level segment during the 49th session of the Human Rights Council. She said that India is building a better and fairer society at home; it is also contributing to a better and fairer world.<br />''<br />''She highlighted India's contribution to global action against Covid pandemic wherein it provided necessary medicines and vaccines to more than 150 countries. Discussing the situation in India, she said that more than 90 percent of India's adult citizens have received the first dose of the vaccine, whereas more than 70 percent have been administered both the doses.<br />''<br />''She also discussed various development initiatives undertaken by India such as free health insurance coverage, provision of 150 million homes to the underprivileged, 85 million free gas connections to women belonging to rural households, &nbsp;providing electricity to all villages and &nbsp;construction of 110 million toilets in the last 5 years to improve personal hygiene and sanitation. She added that India has endeavored to make its development sustainable, inclusive and green.<br />''<br />''Referring to the recent re-election of India to the Human Rights Council for the period 2022-24, Ms. Sandhu said that India is committed to bring in pluralistic, moderate and balanced perspectives, to bridge multiple divides in human rights discourse and action, within the Human Rights Council and beyond. She said that India believes that promotion and protection of human rights are best pursued through dialogue, consultation and cooperation among UN Member States and through provision of technical assistance and capacity building.<br />''<br />''India has also called upon the international community to take resolute action against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Ms. Sandhu said that terrorism is the most serious violation of human rights as it violates the most fundamental human right – namely 'the Right to Life'. She said that India's External Affairs Minister had presented last year to the UN Security Council an 8 Point Action Plan on combatting terrorism and India is committed to contribute to global action in this regard.</span><br />
