At least 75 s killed in rain related incidents in TN

The death toll in rain related incidents in Tamil Nadu has gone up to 75. Nilgris district alone has reported 42 deaths, as people were killed in landslips and wall collapse. Torrential rains had triggered landslides and traffic on the Mettupalayam- Udhagamandalam Ghat section has been completely cut off. Vehicular traffic in various parts of the district has been disrupted, as landslips have occurred in a number of places. The Nilgris Mountain Railway service has also been suspended as huge boulders fell on the tracks.<br/><br/>Chief Minister Mr M.Karunanidhi announced a solatium of one lakh each to the families of those killed. He also deputed two senior ministers to oversee relief operations in Nilgris. Rescue teams from neighbouring Coimbatore are assisting the administration in restoring normalcy in the hill district. Meanwhile reports reaching Chennai from the other districts say that that the rains had abated bringing much relief to the people. However, the met office in Chennai has forecast further rain in the state for the next 24 hours.
