At least 48 Yemeni soldiers killed in Aden suicide bombing

In Yemen, a suicide bomber of the Islamic State group killed at least 48 soldiers in Aden today, the latest in a string of deadly attacks against recruits in the country's second city. Military officials and medics said dozens more were injured in the attack. The attacker targeted a crowd of servicemen who had gathered to collect their salaries near a base in northeastern Aden. <br/><br/>Aden Health chief Abdel Nasser al-Wali told AFP that 48 were killed , while 84 others injured. The attack was carried out by a suicide bomber who blended in among soldiers crowding outside the house of the head of special security forces in Aden, Colonel Nasser Sarea, in Al-Arish district, near Al-Sawlaban base.<br/><br/>IS claimed responsibility for the attack. The attack comes eight days after a similar bombing at Al-Sawlaban claimed by IS killed 48 soldiers and 29 others injured. <br/><br/>Washington regards Al-Qaeda's Yemen-based branch as its most dangerous and has kept up a long-running drone war against its commanders.<br/><br/>The Yemen war has killed more than 7,000 people, about half of them civilians.

At least 48 Yemeni soldiers were killed and several others injured in a suicide attack today at a gathering in the southern city of Aden. Officials said, the attack targeted a crowd of soldiers gathered to collect their salaries at a base in northeastern Aden.<br/><br/>No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. The bombing follows a near identical attack earlier this week, in which 48 soldiers were killed.<br/><br/>Aden is controlled by various factions loyal to the internationally recognized government of President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi. They are battling the Shia Houthi rebels and their allies, who have seized much of north-western Yemen. IS and al-Qaeda have taken advantage of the conflict to bolster their presence in the south of the country.
